About the HKU centennial art project

In 2011-12, the internationally-renowned Chinese visual artist Gu Wenda will be visiting, speaking, and working at Hong Kong University, under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts, and the University Artists Scheme.

During his time here, Gu will be working with HKU staff, faculty, students and alumni to create works of art for the University’s collections. By gathering words, phrases and calligraphy from university students and alumni, Gu will  produce artworks that commemorate the university’s centenary with writings produced by its graduates. The artworks will be preserved in the university’s collections, and displayed in the new Arts Faculty building in the Centennial Campus.

We invite all current and past students of HKU to participate in this project. This is an opportunity to help beautify the University, and to leave your individual mark in its history. This blog has been set up to explain how you can take part, and to keep you informed of developments.

    • Dear Denise,
Thank you for your interest. The first step towards taking part is to devise the phrase you want to contribute. Look at ‘How to Take Part’ (at the top of the page) for instructions. Once you have your phrase, submit it to me at guwenda@hku.hk.

After this, the next step will be the calligraphy workshop with Gu Wenda, which will be held in the first semester. Once the time and place are fixed, we will send out invitation to you, and everyone else who has made a submission, to take part.
